Dabbous

These last two weeks of July have been absolutely jam-packed with tasting menus, please rest assured I do not do this every night!

Anthony is a very suave architect and good friend, and in the midst of designing a restaurant himself, decided he needed a little inspiration and kindly invited me along.P1000680 P1000653The interiors are an architect’s dream, minimalist and slightly industrial. Anthony was most impressed with the almost pitch black lighting in the loos, save a little candlelight (however – not particularly great if you need to sort your makeup!).P1000655We were kept under control by this warm bag of sourdough bread and a fat dollop of home-churned butter (which I could have guzzled on its own). P1000656Then, the tasting menu started to unravel, introduced by cured salmon with elderflower and chervil.P1000659P1000660Peas and mint (winning the prize for most photogenic dish). P1000664Charred broccoli; virgin rapeseed oil dressing.P1000666King crab, hispi cabbage and Jersey royals in a warm garlic buttermilk – I could lap up a bowl of this every night!P1000667Barbecued Iberico pork, savoury acorn praline and crushed green apple. This is the BEST main course I have EVER eaten and I do not say that lightly! I will never look at an acorn in the same way again. P1000672Chilled lemon verbena infusion, cucumber and perilla, AKA anorexic fruit salad. P1000673…and finally the lightest sponge dessert known to man and perfect for the summer heat: barley flour sponge soaked in red tea and Tahitian vanilla cream.P1000676Dabbous gets a big fat thumbs up from the both of us!

That’s not the last you’ll see of me this week, I have one more tasting menu to go…all will be revealed…

It’s really great, and the atmosphere is so unpretentious. Have a great time!
