Exams are over! For now at least…
So, to celebrate, Dara and I headed over to the MasterChef pop-up at the Blue Fin Building in Southwark. Over the course of five weeks, 12 MasterChef winners are treating guests to tasting and sharing menus. Now I can’t say I’ve followed MasterChef particularly closely over the years but there were certainly a few recognisable faces amongst the bustling crowd of diners.
Friday night’s chefs were Tom Whitaker, Sara Danesin Medio and Tim Anderson.
We were considerably early for our reservation, so were ushered towards the terrace bar and treated to some of the best views I’ve had of the London skyline.
As darkness fell and hanger ensued (hunger-related anger) we finally sat down to our tasting menu.
Tom’s starter of rabbit with radishes and mustard was a little disappointing but soon to be redeemed by his main course…
Poached atlantic char with scallops and mussels (one very generous mussel to be precise).
Tim’s cola-braised pork belly was oink-ment for the soul 😉 Matched with dashi foam, squash and fennel. The popcorn crackling was a sweet addition to the dish.
And finally…the s’more mille feuille with campfire sorbet (AKA tea-flavoured sorbet)…
…and Sara’s mango mousse with passion fruit and candied black olive.
We concluded that Sara was our overall winner but Tim’s pork belly stole our hearts (/stomachs). Thank you Sara, Tom and Tim for such a special night of feasting!
