Berlin: tag drei

We’ve all had that craving for a MONSTROUS piece of cake, I am no exception (quite the opposite).  I now know that if I ever need to satisfy such a craving, I need look no further than Eastern Germany – Mr Minsch…P1010126Mr Minsch is a very popular little cake kitchen in southern Berlin.  There will absolutely be a queue, no matter what time of day you drop-by, but it is sooooo worthwhile.P1010127P1010124Alice and I had been on an emotive walking tour to Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Oranienburg, just outside of the city.  It had been a chilly and emotionally draining day for both of us and so we sought out a little comfort food upon our return.P1010123P1010119I was so spoilt for choice that when it came to my turn, I panicked and pointed at the first two slices of ‘kuchen’ that I laid eyes on.  I wasn’t disappointed.  Above is the poppy seed crumble cake and below, a creamy, fluffy cheesecake topped with sour cherries, or ‘kirsches’.P1010120I am ashamed to say we were defeated by these ‘kaiser’ cakes!P1010129These little fellas were perched rather bizarrely by the large cake dome – the link is still a little tenuous/unknown to me…P1010133As if we hadn’t stretched our stomachs enough, we headed out for a German pizza.  Italian food is oddly, a bit of a German specialty.  ’12 Apostels’ was recommended to us twice by locals during our stay, something we just couldn’t ignore.P1010136Tucked away under old railway arches, the exterior is unassuming, but inside a medieval cavern awaits…along with pizzas you could use as spare wheels for your tractor.P1010139P1010137P1010140P1010141For a little something sweet afterwards we popped into a fro-yo cafe that made us feel right at home!P1010146P1010147And so ended our final evening in Deutschland, we tucked ourselves up feeling a little greedy but perfectly content.

But the trip wasn’t over just yet…
